Edward and Percy Warner Parks
Just a 20-minute drive from downtown, the Warner Parks comprise 3,100 acres that attract outdoor lovers of all stripes to the shady, forested trails, perfect for hiking, biking, running, or horseback riding. The parks—once settled by pioneer homesteaders—are now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and attract over 500,000 visitors annually. There's no better time for an inaugural jaunt to Percy Warner than the Full Moon Pickin' Party, a musical menagerie of bluegrass that occurs six times a year (on the Friday of a full moon week between May and October). Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for kids, and all are welcome to pack lawn chairs and a picnic blanket and come out to jam (or listen, depending on your preference). Note: Those who bring certain in-demand instruments like a guitar, banjo, or mandolin receive a discount on admission.
