When many Americans think of Minneapolis, they think of the cold, polite Midwesterners, a football team that spends a lot of its time losing to the Green Bay Packers, and the cold, again. This is a shame, because travel to Minneapolis reveals a vibrant city, one in which Minnesotans of German and Scandinavian descent rub shoulders with recent Hmong immigrants, whose culinary scene is among the most dynamic in the country, and one whose cultural and political climates are the most idiosyncratic anywhere. Along with Saint Paul, Minneapolis is one of Minnesota’s famous “Twin Cities,” and there’s plenty for even the most discriminating of travelers to fall in love with.
Things Not to Miss in Minneapolis
• 112 Eatery
• Restaurant Alma
• The city’s best hotels
• Twins, Vikings, and Golden Gophers home games
• First Avenue, the city’s most iconic music venue
• The Greenway, Minneapolis’s beloved urban playground
When to Go to Minneapolis
There are two schools of thought as to making Minneapolis travel plans. The hearty lumberjacks among us favor Minnesota in the winter, when the snow is thick and the air’s heavy with frost. For the rest of us, the ideal time to visit Minneapolis is from May through September, when highs range from the high 60s to the low 80s, with lows in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Precipitation is also at its highest during these months, but the occasional shower does little to dampen the summer fun.
