Of the four popular Ávila Spanish-food restaurants in Mexico City, two are at the airport. Interiors suggest dining rooms in Spain’s medieval city of Ávila. Service is friendly, expert, and more formal (tablecloths and crystal) than one might expect. Iberian favorites on the menu include shrimp in garlic sauce, paella, and oxtail stew. Other dishes demonstrate an assimilation of Spanish and Mexican cuisine: seasoned pork tacos, red snapper with clams, squid, and pimientos, beef in a green pepper sauce. To finish the meal, it is hard to resist Ávila’s turrón (Spanish nougat) ice cream.
