This controversial cluster of buildings on the banks of the Yarra is equally loved and loathed. Designed by local firms Lab Architecture Studio and Bates Smart, it utilizes a fractal triangular design in three materials: zinc, glass, and sandstone. Within the space are bars, restaurants, the Melbourne Visitor Centre, the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia (dedicated to Australian art), and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image. There's always something going on here—a book fair, a concert, tai chi—and it has become Melbourne's unofficial town square and a meeting place for young and old.
