Chelsea Wine Vault
Taking up 10,000-square-feet of Chelsea Market, this wine shop was intended to be just a wine storage facility, but in order to lease the basement it needed a retail shop. The brick-wall-lined ground floor stocks a globe-spanning selection with 700 to 1,000 labels at a time. While there are free tastings and frequent wine classes, the Chelsea Wine Vault is an actual vault. It stores the entire wine lists of several important New York restaurants, a total of about 27,000 cases, in a temperature- and humidity-controlled cellar.
