Bairro do Avillez
The latest chapter in the Chiado culinary empire of José Avillez (his Belcanto is the city's only restaurant with two Michelin stars) is a multi-space gastronomic takeover of a former private home. Bairro de Avillez includes a small gourmet shop, a traditional taberna, a charcuterie and cheese counter, and a seafood-driven courtyard restaurant. Soon to come is Beco, a fine-dining space inside a stone-walled 13th-century chapel. Start off at Taberna, pairing cheeses and charcuterie or petiscos (small plates) with carefully curated Portuguese wines, then move on to Páteo for more elaborate seafood favorites like coal-roasted blue lobster or bulhão pato-style red millet.
