Kealakekua’s Grass Shack
Lish Jens and her husband opened this funky store, named after the famous island song “My Little Grass Shack in Kealakekua, Hawaii,” nearly 40 years ago. It overflows with uniquely Hawaiian items like lauhala baskets (woven from the brown, palmlike leaves of the hala tree), Kona coffee, ukuleles, pahu drums, koa-wood bowls, leis, paintings, books, old photographs, and toys. A mosaic of customers’ business cards decorates the ceiling.
