Istanbul Modern Art Museum
Opened in 2004, Istanbul Modern occupies an 86,000-square-foot former factory building at the edge of Istanbul's buzzy Karakoy neighborhood. Permanent and temporary exhibitions from Turkish and international contemporary artists, a photography gallery, new-media gallery, library, and cinema make the Modern an easy spot to spend a day. Enjoy dishes highlighting seasonal ingredients and stellar views from the Museum Café (reservations recommended). The museum offers free guided tours on Thursdays and Saturdays, and 18- to 25-year-olds can attend free screenings, workshops, and other activities on Tuesdays from 4 to 8 p.m.
