Trained by goldsmiths in the Grand Bazaar, Turkish jewelry designer Janset Bilgin crafts contemporary pieces from semiprecious stones, gold, silver, leather, and fabric. Four years ago, she moved her atelier turned boutique a block downhill to this welcoming neighborhood café in Galata. Now the former tour guide intersperses time in her workshop with coffee klatches and sales. Bilgin's designs are unique; she rarely produces two pieces exactly alike. Look for brightly painted enamel pendant necklaces, filigree-like knitted steel mesh collars suspended from leather and fabric, delicate gold rings, and big hammered brass pendants on fabric-wrapped leather. After your purchase, settle in for a cup of tea or coffee and a brownie baked by Bilgin's childhood friend and in-house baker, Berrin.
