Sunset Grill & Bar
Forget the burger-joint visions the name connotes: this elegant rooftop spot is one of the city’s most sophisticated dining destinations. Should you so much as shiver from a tiny gust of evening breeze here, a staffer will rush over to wrap a thick pashmina around your shoulders; cigars are lit and cognac and wine glasses refilled (from the top-notch list) with the same alacrity. The menu is billed as California cuisine—a reference to the sushi menu and Asian bent of some of the dishes (spring rolls, tempura, tuna tataki with ponzu sauce). In truth, though, the food is much closer to what you’d find in Washington, D.C., with an emphasis on politico favorites (foie gras, roast duck, and grilled loin of lamb) that cost a lot, taste great, and probably aren’t that terrific for you.
