The largest museum in the state, downtown’s Honolulu Museum of Art was founded in 1922 and is now home to 50,000 pieces, including one of the biggest (and best) Asian art collections in the country and, naturally, a comprehensive, vast survey of Hawaiiana. A 10-minute drive away, the museum’s second location, Spalding House, includes five galleries focusing on contemporary works, including an installation of David Hockney’s L’Enfant et les sortileges.
