Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar
D.K. Kodama, a third-generation Japanese American, founded this Asian-fusion restaurant, whose name translates in Japanese to “third generation.” Know for its eclectic cuisine and inventive sushi, Sansei opened in Maui in 1996, and has now expanded to four locations throughout Hawaii. Specialties include the Kapalua Butterfly Roll, made with salmon, crab, shiromi (white fish), and vegetables, and the shrimp cake with ginger-lime butter and cilantro pesto. A menu of specialty cocktails is available, including the popular Sansei-tini, a concoction of sake, vodka, and a chilled cucumber slice.
