Cafe Deco, Hong Kong
Yes, it’s a little on the touristy side—okay, more than a little—but this sprawling restaurant atop Victoria Peak is well worth a visit for its unmatchable nighttime views over the city. The menu here tries to cover every base; dinner choices range from tandoori to sushi, and from pizza to Texas-size steaks; there’s even an oyster bar with selections from the United States, South Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and France (the rule of thumb here is, the simpler the dish preparation, the better it’s likely to be). On most nights you can linger after your meal and listen to the in-house jazz band—but make sure to step outside at some point for a more studied look at the city from on high. The sheer amount of neon wattage blazing away below makes Las Vegas seem dim in comparison.
