Kennebec Café & Bakery
This Mediterranean-American café and bakery opened in the Four Corners region in 2000. Local pastry chef Barbara Helmer and her business partner, chef Miguel Carrillo, converted an old motel into this Tuscan-style restaurant with tall windows, wooden beams, and an arched ceiling. From the dining room and the courtyard, there are views of the surrounding gardens and the La Plata Mountains. The menu has a range of entrees, from grilled rack of lamb with rosemary to chicken pot pie. Chef Helmer makes several signature desserts that are big enough to share, such as the sour cream and apple pie.
