Waialua Sugar Mill
On the rural North Shore, a former sugar factory has been converted into a marketplace that’s home to a number of local businesses. There’s a small but charming Saturday farmers' market selling everything from papayas to “plate lunch” (the classic Hawaiian lunch staple, usually consisting of a smoky barbecued meat with generous portions of white rice and macaroni salad); a soap factory that uses indigenous ingredients like kukui and macadamia nuts; and Waialua Coffee & Chocolate, which serves up some of the island’s best of both.
