As much a cultural experience as a place for a meal, this restaurant and sushi bar on MacArthur Blvd takes traditional Japanese dining seriously. Dinner at Makoto is a formal affair in an environment where rules of decorum are observed and hushed tones seem appropriate. Be prepared to remove your shoes upon entry in favor of special slippers. Ultra-fresh sushi and sashimi are Makoto's biggest draw, though hot dishes from the kitchen are certainly worth trying, and sake in crystal glasses is not to be missed. The narrow wood-paneled dining room is simple but dignified.
