Il Santo Bevitore
Still one of Florence's most popular restaurants even after more than a decade, Il Santo Bevitore has a buzzy, casual vibe, and an imaginative menu that ranges from wooden platters of excellent cold cuts and cheeses to meat and fish specialties. Try to book a table in the side room where the atmosphere is a little more intimate; the vaulted ceilings and wood paneling in the larger room means it can be noisy when the place is full. The menu varies with the seasons, but you will find dishes such as chestnut flour crepes with Camembert cheese, tartare of Chianina beef, rabbit stewed with black olives, and crispy octopus. Not hungry? No one will mind if you just order a salad. Desserts (lavender crème brulée, for example) are delicious and there's a good wine list, too.
