Off-radar Guscio lies south of the river in the backwoods of the Oltrarno, and is popular both for lunch and dinner with the locals. It has been run by the same family since 1986, and while there is a new generation in the kitchen as well as a fancy wine list, it still has the buzzy feel of a neighborhood trattoria. Lunch time service is fast, furious, and a great value, while dinner is a more leisurely (and costly) affair, giving equal space to fish and meat options. The tuna tartare and spaghetti alla trabaccolara (with mixed seafood) are stand-outs, though meat-eaters will enjoy the luscious fillet steak cooked in sweet vin santo wine and finished off with a slice of liver paté.
