Rocco Forte's Savoy is the hippest and most relaxed of the city's five star hotels, and enjoys what is arguably the best location, right on Piazza della Repubblica, and steps away from the Ponte Vecchio and the Duomo. Designer Olga Polizzi's recent refit has jazzed up the interiors, adding bright textiles and new artworks to her trademark neutral tones in both the public spaces and bedrooms. Presidential suites aside, the best rooms are the spacious executive suites, most of which have great views over the busy square below or even of the Duomo: all have swish marble bathrooms with mosaic detailing. There's a small but cozy sitting room, a tiny top-floor fitness room with a close-up view of Brunelleschi's cupola, and the newly launched, bistro-style 'Irene,' where you can sample specialties from all over Italy in convivial, contemporary surroundings. Breakfast is a feast and especially pleasant in warm weather, when the terrace is in use. There's even an in-house flower designer who will whip up wonderfully original arrangements for any occasion.
