Open exclusively during the summer months, Flatey is located on its eponymous island—the largest of over 3,000 rocky specks floating in one of Iceland’s broadest fjords. Warm weather enlivens the lonely isle with blooming Arctic flowers, and locals who take the ferry over to spend time at their summer houses. The inn has a delightful maritime theme, but feels unintentionally designed. Meals served in the dining room are some of the best in Iceland, and feature seafood straight from the bay. You may find yourself dining with Icelanders who have come over from the mainland just to have a bite.
