Europe’s largest enclosed urban park—encompassing more than 1,700 acres—is set just two miles west from the city center. You can easily spend an entire day exploring its numerous attractions, which include the gargantuan obelisk of the Wellington Memorial, the 15th-century Ashtown Castle, Dublin Zoo (one of the world’s oldest), a set of delightful Victorian tearooms, and Áras an Uachtaráin—the residence of the Irish president. As you wander around the picturesque lake at the Furry Glen or the more traditional pond near the North Circular Road entrance, keep an eye out for the park’s resident herds of wild, roaming deer.
