Hacienda Los Lingues Chile
A stay at Los Lingues is a lesson in regional history. The owner consulted with top architects and historians to restore Chile’s oldest hacienda—78 miles south of Santiago, in the Colchagua Valley—to its 1650 colonial style, while adding contemporary luxuries like a pool. Throughout the estate, which comprises a main house and a guesthouse on more than 25,000 acres, rooms are flush with priceless antiques, from 16th-century silver Peruvian fighting cocks to ornate Mapuche necklaces. The plantation’s stables shelter its Creole horses, members of a superior breed dating back to the 18th century; they star in daily riding exhibitions held at the on-site rodeo ring.
