Tucked behind a garden fence on Broad Street, this 18th century Georgian home once belonged to a South Carolina governor (thus the name) and signer of the Declaration of Independence. Guests can help themselves to the sherry decanter on the silver tray in the parlor, then sink into wicker furniture on the wide veranda, before retiring to their richly colored rooms with high ceilings and hardwood floors, some with chandeliers and laced arched canopy beds. A romantic and luxurious retreat, the inn sits squarely between Charleston's historic residential district "South of Broad" and shopping, galleries, and restaurants to the north.
