Waves crashing against the rugged coastline create a beautiful backdrop for this intimate resort that’s part of the Auberge Resorts group and sister to the legendary Auberge du Soleil in California Wine Country. Each room has a single wall that slides open to a private veranda with sweeping views of both the Sea of Cortez and Punta Ballena (“Whale Point,” past which humpbacks migrate in winter). It’s an inspiring spot for morning yoga practice (all of the rooms come with mats) or a dip in your infinity-edge hot tub (in most of the rooms). There are plenty of culinary bells and whistles here—a ceviche bar, beachfront Argentine-style barbecues—but the best experience is the simple pleasure of dining at the main restaurant, which is set on a stone terrace carved into the bluffs overlooking the sea.
