Founded during the Ming Dynasty by members of the Han clan from Shanxi Province, Cuandixia is a village on a hill with more than 500 beautifully preserved stone courtyard houses. They're especially picturesque nestled between tall and verdant mountains. Many of the residents, who are descendants of the Han clan, operate guest houses and restaurants serving simple country fare, making for an immersive visit. The steep stone steps leading into the village may be hard to negotiate for young children and adults with limited mobility, but the surrounding trails are appropriate for a relaxed stroll.
