Wat Phra Kaew, The Temple of the Emerald Buddha
Wat Phra Kaew, more commonly known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, is widely regarded as Thailand’s most sacred site. The temple, located inside the Grand Palace complex, was built by King Rama I and houses a statue of Buddha carved out of a single piece of jade. The temple itself is composed of several buildings, and the Buddha is housed inside the central ubosoth, which is surrounded by a covered walkway and walls decorated with ornate, gilded patterns, and statues of demons. The Buddha is dressed in elaborate robes, changed seasonally by the king himself.
