Le Papillon Ivre
It’s hard to believe, but the island got its first wine bar only a year ago when Sophie Donzeau opened Le Papillon Ivre, a gem in the town of St.-Jean. The décor and vibe are casual and warm, with their wood tables, shelving, and tiny four-stool bar—no one would bat an eye if you showed up just after a day on the beach in shorts or flip flops. The wine list, not surprisingly, is all French: Come for a glass or bottle of Chinon, Châteauneuf Du Pape, and Vouvray—paired with hunks of rich cheeses like Tomme de Savoie, truffled brie, and St. Nectaire. Donzeau also offers small plates of charcuteries, and on Saturdays and Sundays, she turns her wine bar into a mini farmers’ market, and brings in vendors to sell fresh organic fruits and vegetables from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm.
