1100 Congress Ave., Austin, TX , United States

Texans’ love of all things big extends to its capitol building, which dominates the Austin skyline and is visible for miles driving up South Congress Avenue. Built in 1886, the Texas State Capitol, an Italian Renaissance Revival structure with a pink granite exterior—is the largest state capital in the U.S. in square footage. Sign up for the free tour, which begins in the South Foyer every 45 minutes, and guides will also point out another source of Texan pride: the dome is taller than the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
