SkyCity Grand Hotel
With its sweeping marble entrance and Karl Maughan’s vivid six-panel artwork of native fauna on display in the foyer, the SkyCity Grand is the place to go for an upscale stay. With its recently refurbished rooms, it won’t disappoint lovers of minimalist styling. The location is also a winner—the arts hub of Aotea Centre is five minutes away, as is Auckland Gallery Toi o Tamaki, and it’s within walking distance of the casino, if that’s your thing. It’s also right on Federal Street with a string of excellent restaurants—Depot, Federal Delicatessen, the Grill by Sean Connolly, Masu by Nic Watt, and the Sugar Club and Bellota by Pater Gordon. The hotel's own restaurant—Gusto by Sean Connolly—is also very good. If it’s views you want, ask for a room on the Harbour Bridge side of the hotel.
