Every year, students and families flock to all-inclusive island paradises for a little tradition we like to call spring break, but everybody celebrates the “holiday” differently. While the most common themes associated with spring break can be found in the title of Serge Gainsbourg’s 1978 hit, "Sea, Sex and Sun," there are plenty of options out there for those who don’t feel particularly inspired by the iconic French singer’s lyrics.
While countries like Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico still draw in hoards of tourists each March, more and more travelers are turning to less crowded destinations, which offer cheaper hotel stays and airfare during this time of year. I recently spoke with two groups of friends who informed me of their plans to visit Iceland and Amsterdam, respectively—places that, in their opinions, offer just as fun a party scene (bikinis and cocktails in the Blue Lagoon, anyone?), but also, more opportunities for cultural stimulation.
Regardless of where you’re headed, there are a number of essentials you’re going to need to pack (pro tip: go heavy on ultra-hydrating skincare).
Below, a list of everything you’d ever need for a stylish spring break getaway—whether you’re a mom jetting off on a family vacation, a teen searching for the perfect pair of shades, or a collegiate looking for the best tinted sunscreen that won’t sweat off after a day of dancing under the sun.
