As an e-commerce editor at Travel + Leisure, I have touched, tested, and worn out a multitude of suitcases, carry-ons, backpacks, and travel bags. Every trip seems to call for something different: sometimes a chic suitcase worth showing off while rolling through the lobby of a Parisian hotel, other times a deceptively spacious, waterproof backpack for Hawaiian hikes. While the hunt for the perfect travel bag has given us and our readers an array of options we definitely stan, I had yet to land on mine.

This year, Travel + Leisure collaborated with Travelpro to design our own perfect range of travel bags. Needless to say, my expectations for this collection were high. I'd actually just had a few disappointing tests with other brands, so when I received the sample of our Travelpro x Travel + Leisure collection, the bullet points of what make a great travel bag were fresh on my mind.

As soon as I unboxed the carry-on, I could tell the durability and attractiveness were both there. A quick and seamless (so to speak) unzipping proved that the carry-on underpromised and overdelivered when it came to spaciousness.

I was able to test the bag on a 10-hour flight from New York City to Honolulu for a weeklong work trip on the island. Much to my delight — and disbelief, frankly — I was able to comfortably overpack for the trip with just this one carry-on. My multiple pairs of high heels (an inexplicable must for me, regardless of the destination) weren't crowded by the sweater I "might need" or the multiple bottles of sunscreen I brought as "backup."

The carry-on's ridged hard shell made me confident that I'd open it after landing to find the integrity of my cameras and beauty products fully insured — and I was right. And after a total of five flights, three moves, and countless uses as a step ladder in my New York City apartment, my Travelpro x Travel + Leisure carry-on is thriving and in need of another destination. Maybe in 2021.
