The Kate Middleton effect is real, but if there's one fashion approach Meghan Markle knows best, it’s high-low style. Sure, the Duchess of Sussex is regularly seen in designer duds or custom-made gowns, but she’s also a frequent fan of more affordable accessories. And that includes one sneaker brand you’ll love too.

During her first royal tour, Markle was spotted in a pair of classic black and white VEJA trainers. Though they are cute, they are also made with a lot of thought. As Good Housekeeping noted, the shoe company was founded in 2005 with ethical design and manufacturing in mind. The shoes are constructed with organic cotton made in Brazil and Peru. There, all of the farms are a part of the company’s fair trade practice, meaning VEJA purchases its cotton directly from the farmers to ensure the highest pay possible. The brand then ensures its shoes are made without the use of any toxic elements that could harm the wearer or the environment at large.

Beyond this care, VEJA also employs upcycling practices, using plastic bottles, recycled polyester, and upcycled cotton to create much of the fabric used in the shoe. The company is also animal-friendly, as several styles are made to be 100-percent vegan.
