9 Easy Tips for Stealing Kate Middleton’s Effortless Travel Style
Sweatpants will not do for a duchess.
When Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, steps out for a travel day, she cannot shirk her royal responsibilities. A member of the royal family cannot be spotted schlubbing around the airport in athletic wear with a cup of coffee in one hand.
No matter where she is traveling, the Duchess of Cambridge keeps her entire look classy, polished and put together.
When looking for a bit of inspiration to show up to the airport in a First Class look, take a cue from Kate Middleton and her tried-and-true travel wardrobe.
Kate opts for the classic Ray-Ban Wayfarer while in transit, but any all-black pair in a timeless shape will do.
2. Skinny jeans
It’s all about the classics in Kate’s wardrobe. She does not stray far from her preferred silhouettes which, while traveling or in more casual wear, boil down to a pair of mid-wash skinny jeans cropped just slightly above the ankle.
A scarf is a double duty item. Not only is a scarf useful for keeping warm on the plane, it brightens up the neutral color palettes that Kate tends to wear.
4. Tote or large purse
A diaper bag is a no-no, but traveling with small children means keeping their favorite things within arm’s reach. Whether or not you’re traveling with Prince George and Princess Charlotte, a structured tote or large purse keeps all your travel essentials in one place.
5. A dress with a defined waist
A staple of the duchess’s wardrobe is a flattering dress. She regularly chooses dresses that hit the knee with a modest neckline and a nipped waist.
6. A nude heel
The Duchess almost always opts for a nude heel with her dresses. Not only does it elongate the leg for pictures, it goes with everything packed in a travel wardrobe.
When on more casual outings, Kate spots a brown knee-length riding boot (usually over the aforementioned skinny jeans).
8. Button-up shirt
Rarely does Kate Middleton show up to the airport in a t-shirt. If she’s wearing jeans on the bottom, she’ll keep things classy with button-up shirts, usually in neutral colors and sometimes in a subtle pattern.
When looking for something a bit more casual (but not too casual — she is still the Duchess, after all), Kate tends to lean on wedges. One particular favorite is a braided straw wedge that adds some vacation vibes to her look, while allowing her some stability in her shoes.
