6 Hot Hair Accessories for Staying Cool This Summer
Dealing with my hair during the hot summer months is a lost cause I’ve only recently come to terms with. I have friends who can spend a day at the beach or an afternoon in New York City’s sweltering, 90-degree heat and return home looking like they just filmed a Pantene commercial. This will never be my fate. For me, it’s more like Diana Ross on her “The Boss” album cover — obviously still fabulous, but not exactly the look I’m going for.
I’ve tried everything to tame the frizz: keratin treatments, silk pillowcases, hair vitamins, frequent trims. Nada. It took me a long time to accept that my dry, damaged hair would just never respond well to my favorite season, but I was finally ready to resign myself to an endless rotation of high and low buns.
That was until spring/summer collection previews a few months ago, where I was relieved to spot the solution for my annual summer hair anxiety. Fun hair accessories in all forms flooded the runways, and then inevitably landed in every store window display. I was inspired by the various ways I’d be able to keep my hair tamed and out of my face (and everyone else’s) this summer.
So, naturally, I had to get my hands on all of them: scrunchies, colorful barrettes, turban-headband-hybrids aptly called “turbands.” I didn’t care how crazy these hair accessories might make me look, I was willing to try anything to prevent people from getting “It’s My House” stuck in their heads at the first sight of me. Spoiler: they’re actually all super cute.
Below, the six most stylish hair accessories to keep you cool and your hair controlled this summer.
Of all the hair trends, scrunchies are the most ubiquitous. Opt for a pure silk material — like this floral pick by Comfort Objects — to keep your hair crease-free and as silky smooth as the heat will allow.
