Your Childhood Seashell Jewelry Is All Grown Up — and One of Summer’s Top Accessory Trends
Growing up, my favorite souvenirs to bring home from coastal vacations were the seashells I collected during long days by the shore. It was a simple pleasure, an oft-overlooked memory from childhood, but one that many of us share. We'd bring home our natural treasures and flaunt them proudly to our friends.
Soon after, we’d lose them to the clutter of our messy, adolescent lives. Although, in the rare occasion that we'd eventually stumble upon that once-beloved cowrie shell, we'd easily be able to place its origin and tell its story with a fondness so happy and pure.
There are few things that afford you the light-hearted joyfulness a seashell can. And it's perhaps for that reason that designers were especially nostalgic this season. Driven by the playfulness that fueled our childhoods, many designers incorporated seashells into their spring/summer accessories.
While shells are traditionally young, brands like Rebecca de Ravenel and Loewe elevated the trend by incorporating them in both luxury and contemporary pieces — pairing iridescent snail shells with resin beads and wrapping spiked conches in woven metallic cord.
Below, we’ve rounded up the 10 best seashell accessories for grown-ups.
