Today in lust-worthy travel finds: Orlebar Brown x One&Only Resorts swim trunks
A swim capsule collection that evokes the glamour of travel’s past.
In the 1950s, to travel was a luxury. Going on holiday implied you were part of a small fraction of the population able to afford it.
But this also lent a certain sophistication to traveling — from the destinations themselves to resort fashion, the jet set oozed not only wealth, but elegance. Vacation was, as one could imagine, impossibly photogenic; and Slim Aarons was there with his camera to capture it all. The American photographer devoted three decades to documenting the essence of holiday glamour: beautiful people in beautiful places wearing beautiful clothes.
While travel has become more democratic in recent years, Adam Brown, designer of British brand Orlebar Brown, is driven by a desire to maintain that level of resortwear elegance, particularly for men (who have, by and large, not exactly maintained sophisticated leisure dressing the way women have). A photographer himself, Brown's determination to elevate a man’s holiday look led him to design well-tailored, graphic swim trunks that would make it easy for men to go from the pool to the bar, all while looking the part.
This season, with that inspiration still top of mind, Orlebar Brown teamed up with One&Only resorts. If you've ever had the opportunity to visit a One&Only resort, you know they're practically synonymous with luxury, effortlessly mirroring the backdrops in Slim Aarons' photographs. This partnership is a winning combination: Orlebar Brown brings the luxury resortwear while One&Only offers the luxury setting, inevitably leading to one epic capsule collection.
The customized collection consists of four pairs of swim shorts featuring the tropical locales of select One&Only resorts: Hayman Island in the Great Barrier Reef, Le Saint Géran in Mauritius, Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico (which has gotten several World’s Best Awards nods), and Reethi Rah in the Maldives.
So whether you’ve already booked your summer travel or don't plan to make it beyond the Hamptons, you can still pick up a pair of these trunks to attain a piece of the magic. Though, once you put them on, you may be tempted to rethink your plans and visit these resorts first-hand; your imagination can only take you so far.
