There are few things more special to me than spending quality time with my dad. In fact, every year, my brother, my dad, and I go on a trip just the three of us. No significant others or spouses are allowed to come — it’s all about spending one-on-one (or in this case, two-on-one) time with our dad.

Planning out great experiences with your dad is such a good way to spend time with him. And giving your dad an experiential gift is always a safe bet, too — especially because he’s probably hard to shop for. There always seems to be an endless amount of Mother’s Day present options, but when Father’s Day rolls around, we all realize we have absolutely no clue what to get our dads. That’s why creating experiences you can enjoy with your dad might make for a better gift. In a way, the memories you make with your dad while attending a concert, trying a new restaurant, or planning a trip are far more valuable than the grilling accessories you might buy him otherwise.

You don’t have to wait until Father’s Day to plan a great experience for you and your dad. Showing our parents we appreciate them shouldn’t be reserved for one day out of the year, after all. So call up your old man and plan something fun with him — a trip to his favorite brewery, an evening in the city to see a new play, or whatever you think he’d like. And don’t forget to snap a few photos to make those memories last.
