Santa Fe is a Mecca for the healing arts, which is why it’s hard to find a bad yoga studio or instructor here. Finding the right one is mostly a matter matching the right studio to the kind of yoga you practice, whether its Iyengar, Ashtanga, Vinyassa, or Bhakti, or Bikram. Some studios are easier to drop into than others—because some  guru-like instructors take their teaching so seriously that they require more than just a one- or two-class commitment. But whether you prefer the sweaty asanas of hot yoga, a beat-filled vinyasa flow class, or the more traditional extended poses of Iyengar, you’ll find a studio in Santa Fe that offers what you need—and more. Body is a yoga and dance studio, spa, boutique-clothing store, training gym, and restaurant rolled into one. Warning: Once you take a yoga class or two in Santa Fe, you’re not going to want to leave.

The well-trained instructors here offer classes like Sunday afternoon Gospel Vinyasa and Candlelight Flow. They may not be the most traditional practitioners in town, but these yogis and yoginis are highly committed and creative. Stop on the way out of class at the cafe for a beet, carrot, lemon, and ginger “Quencher.”

Co-owners Wendelin Scott and Amy Spurlock have nurtured instructors who are so committed to the studio that most have been teaching together for more than ten years. The main studio and boutique clothing store are off Second Street and last year the duo opened a second studio on the north side of town. If perfecting your practice is your goal, sign up for a workshop like “Root to Rise,” a workshop dedicated to strengthening the feet and hands. 

Santa Fe Community Yoga Center

The only non-profit studio in town offers 40 classes per week, some of which are by donation. The space is small and intimate, community is a priority, and outreach to local schools and community groups are an essential part of their program. So if you’re feeling generous, take a class and pay $50—the donation will be put to good use.

Blue Moon Hot Yoga

If you’re a yogi who needs to work up a guaranteed sweat, steer yourself to Blue Moon. Their “Slow Mo Hot Vinyasa Flow” class focuses on building core strength, while the 90-minute Hot Vinyasa Flow class flows through postures, providing an intense strength, breath, and flexibility workout. 

Bikram’s Yoga Santa Fe

Love or hate Bikram Choudhury, the controversial founder of this 26-posture yoga sequence, his mandatory 105-degree heated room, combined with the intensity of his 90-minute workout are addicting. Whether or not it will “reveal your inner truth,” as Bikram promises, is up to you.
