Jackson Holers take their lunches seriously. If you’re going to interrupt playing outside in the area’s national parks and national forests or on the river, it had better be worth it. While lunch options might be seriously good, you don’t have to worry about dressing up even at the nicer restaurants. This is Wyoming, after all. Lunch tables might be set with white linen and fine china, but rolling in directly from a hike or ride or still in your ski wear is perfectly acceptable. Casual is okay just about everywhere. Restaurants too, seem to take advantage of the extra-relaxed lunch vibe. The dinner menus at Teton Pines and Sweetwater are fabulous, but I think both shine even more at lunch, especially in summer when each has a waiting list for an outside table. Sometimes you just need some TCP. Turkey, Cran, Pesto, that is. This budget-friendly downtown café has been the valley’s go-to spot for salads and sammies (the TCP is a sandwich) for well over a decade now. The local consensus is that the turkey chili here is among the best in town. Same goes for the cookies.
Three words: grilled tenderloin sliders. This semi-private country club is known for having some of the best steaks in town. At lunch, the chef makes them into the best sliders you’ll ever have. In fact, most every item on the menu will be among the best you’ve ever had. The Pines excels by doing unexpected twists on standards.
Pearl Street Market
Grab prepared foods, soups, and sandwiches using hormone and antibiotic-free meats and wild-caught seafood to go or sit down and eat at this gourmet grocer one block from the Town Square. The cheese and charcuterie selection here is among the best in the valley and deli workers actually appreciate the difference between Prosciutto di Parma and Bresaola.
Even if Sweetwater wasn’t in a log cabin pioneers built in 1915, it’d be the most popular lunch spot in town for its huge and diverse menu. (The diversity extends to the desserts; there’s usually six to eight to choose from.) Mason jars for drinking glasses, colorful Fiesta plates, and mismatched, antique linens add to the charm.
This bright café specializes in raw and vegan fare and it does fresh extracted juices, but you can get bison (among other proteins) added to most anything. I’m addicted to the Bombay Bowl (and there’s often enough leftovers for an afternoon snack). My boyfriend to the bison tacos. He doesn’t have leftovers.
