After weeks of being cooped up inside, you can begin to make plans for your re-emergence into the world at a discount — no commitment required.

Through May 17, Marriott is offering gift cards at a 20 percent discount without having to pick a destination and a date. The gift cards can be used at any Marriott locations around the world and partner brands including  EDITION, Moxy, Ritz Carlton, St. Regis, Aloft, JW Marriott, and many more. The Bulgari and Design hotels, the Ritz-Carlton residences, and Homes and Villas by Marriott International (HVMI) are not included in the promotion.

The gift cards are only available through the Marriott website and not at any individual hotel locations or websites.

Additionally, Marriott will offer 10 percent off its HVMI premium home rentals on May 18 and 19. Listings include beach houses and mountainside cabins around the world with the amenities of a Marriott hotel, but without any of the other guests. Reservations booked through HVMI between now August 31 can be canceled up to 10 days before arrival for a full refund, minus a $75 credit card processing fee.

With its new gift card promotion, Marriott joins the “Don’t Cancel, Postpone” trend that many hotels and hotel chains are pushing during the global coronavirus pandemic. Travelers can purchase “bonds” that will increase in value or hotel credits that are worth more than what the traveler paid.

In addition to the enhanced value gift cards, members of Marriott Bonvoy will receive a 60 percent bonus when they gift or purchase points from May 18 through June 30.

Last month, the hotel chain introduced its “Global Cleanliness Council” to protect hotel employees and guests against the spread of coronavirus and give customers a sense of confidence when booking. In addition to increased cleaning and disinfecting around all hotels, the initiative is also helping alter procedures like check-in to decrease person-to-person contact.
