Bringing some East London hipster style to Amsterdam’s stately Herengracht canal, the hotly anticipated Hoxton Amsterdam repeats its stylish and much-loved Shoreditch formula with a Dutch twist (the U.K.-based hotel company has locations in Shoreditch and Holburn, with plans for openings in Paris and New York City in 2016).
The newly opened Hoxton Amsterdam comprises five canal houses that are a part of city history—the mayor once lived in one, back in the 17th century. With 111 rooms spread over five floors, some with canal views, the Hoxton Amsterdam offers something, space- and price-wise, for everyone. Rooms start at Shoebox and Cosy, and increase to Roomy or Concept options—the latter boasting period details such as ornamental ceilings for a touch of local luxury. The usual Hoxton trimmings—free wifi, mineral water and breakfast bags—come with every one, as does the deft touch with design, from sleek but inviting furniture, and warm, sophisticated color palettes.
You don’t have to stay at the Hoxton to enjoy it as a social hub. There’s the restaurant Lotti’s, complete with plush velvet sofas and a retractable glass ceiling that peels back when the sun shines, offering Italian cuisine with Dutch notes. Chill at the Up Top café and cocktails lounge, hit the lobby bar, or swing by The Apartment—a meeting and event space that hosts Hoxtown happenings (the hotel’s own curated selection of local events, from fitness classes to film screenings). Take a look at the images for booking inspiration.
