Spend a Night 'City Glamping' Inside This Pyramid in Memphis, Tennessee
Get the best of city life in a nature-inspired hotel in Tennessee.
Bring the outdoors indoors, in the most luxurious way.
The Memphis Pyramid in Memphis, Tennessee sits along the Mississippi River, celebrating the city’s Egyptian namesake as it is shaped like the old pyramids. Now the home of Bass Pro Shops, the pyramid is also home to a unique hotel, Big Cypress Lodge.
The elevated wilderness-inspired hotel is perfect for some “city glamping.” Chances are, you’ve tried glamping (luxurious camping) but this experience allows you to enjoy the feeling of “roughing it” in the great outdoors while also enjoying luxurious comfort inside. And no long trips into the actual wilderness for those who prefer a cushy king-size bed to a tent.
The hotel boasts an elegant stone fireplace in its lobby and 103 rustic-elegant guest rooms and suites – all outfitted to resemble vintage cabins.
The best rooms for “city glamping” include the hotel’s Fly Fishing Lodge, Treehouse Room, and Duck Cabin.
The Fly Fishing Lodge can accommodate four people, with one king-size and one queen-size bed, two bathrooms (one of which has a soaking tub), cabinet with small refrigerator and coffeemaker, and an electric fireplace.
The Treehouse Room is quite literally a treehouse within the hotel. It sleeps up to six people in one king-sized bed and two queen-size beds, two bathrooms both equipped with soaking tubs, two electric fireplaces, and a screened-in porch that overlooks the hotel’s 100-foot indoor Cypress trees and amazing indoor Cypress Swamp. The Cypress Swamp, located on the ground floor, not only has restaurants and stores with everything you need for your stay, it also has fish ponds and even a pool filled with live alligators.
The Duck Cabin is perhaps the most intimate choice. It sleeps about two people in one king-size bed and one bathroom with a soaking tub. This room also comes equipped with an electric fireplace and lots of hardwood furnishings.
Besides the comfortable rooms, the hotel also offers a wide range of activities including underwater-themed bowling alley, archery range, the country’s tallest freestanding elevator (the Sky High Ride), and the Ducks Unlimited Waterfowling Heritage Center museum. Or, you can venture out into Memphis for plenty of food, nightlife, and shopping opportunities.
