New levels of luxury are coming to Big Sky Country. The Ranch at Rock Creek (doubles from $1,600, all-inclusive), a 10-square-mile homestead, includes nine suites, a log cabin, and eight canvas-walled tents. Our favorite treatment in the spa: the Saddle Sore Soak. In May, Triple Creek Ranch (doubles from $650) will finish sprucing up 16 of its 23 cabins with pine doors and slate floors. And this summer the Resort at Paws Up (doubles from $665, all-inclusive) debuts Creekside Camp—six tents with one or two bedrooms overlooking a babbling creek.

Resort at Paws Up

In Tent City at Paws Up, a western Montana resort, "roughing it" means camping under the stars in a heated canvas bower with a king-sized featherbed. After your campfire breakfast of huckleberry pancakes, an expert guide will take you fly-fishing on the Blackfoot, then leave the two of you all alone. The resort is open for the winter season from December 18 through February 15. Starting summer 2010, the resort opened Creekside Camp—six tents with one or two bedrooms overlooking a babbling creek.

Triple Creek Ranch

Triple Creek is a service-driven, adults-only property located in Montana’s Bitterroot Mountains. The 600-acre landscape has 23 plush log cabins, each outfitted with cozy touches like wood-burning fireplaces, hot tubs, and locally woven woolens. Itineraries are tailored to guests’ interests and can include dinners at the chef’s table, wine tastings, and helicopter tours.

It’s a 100-mile drive from Missoula International Airport to this 6,600-acre spread, but the posh high-mountain pampering is worth it. Ponds are full of trout, cabins come with well-stocked wine fridges and claw-foot tubs, and spa treatments are tailor-made for two.

Riding: Rides are scheduled according to the wishes of its guests, and trail rides traverse anything from riverbeds to rolling meadows and wooded foothills. Mini cattle drives are an option for those with considerable riding skills.

Capacity: 60 guests; 72 horses.
