Thanksgiving weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year. Whether you are only traveling an hour from home, or crossing the country for the long weekend, you need to pack smartly.

You need pieces that can be worn multiple ways, and be dressed up or down. Here are the seven essentials to pack for Thanksgiving weekend—and don’t forget a gift for the host.

Steamline luggage

First things first, you are going to need a great suitcase. After using this vintage inspired trolley, you will never look at luggage in the same way. Typical trunks are heavy and unwieldy, but this design is special in that it has two wheels for easy maneuvering.

Olivia Von Halle cashmere set

Since you will most likely be staying at a relative’s house or hotel, make sure to pack some cute pajamas. This transitional cashmere jogger set by Olivia Von Halle is just as comfortable on the streets as it is lounging on the couch or in bed.

Tibi pants

On a day known for gluttony and overeating, a pair of pants that are more forgiving is key. Opt for loose and flowy culottes, like this pair from Tibi. The pretty silk material makes them nice enough to wear to your family dinner, but they can also be paired with a t-shirt and sneakers for a more casual daytime look.

Protagonist bodysuit

Layering is one of our favorite tricks to traveling. Just as good for the plane as it is for a family function, a bodysuit is an essential piece in any wardrobe. This chic style from Protagonist elevates an outfit with just the right notes of style and sophistication.

Vince cardigan

A cardigan is the perfect style of sweater for when you are layering. This Vince cardi goes perfectly over a bodysuit and can be worn either open or closed, depending on how cold you are. Also, it’s a great way to cover up when stomachs are full after a delicious meal.

Max Mara coat

During the autumn and winter, always travel with an amazing coat. A wool and cashmere blend will go with anything in your wardrobe and an oversized style like this one from Max Mara will keep you cozy from the post-dinner walk around the neighborhood, to your big day of shopping on Friday.

Robert Clergerie shoes

One of our favorite shoe styles this season is the convertible loafer. Wear them as loafers for during your family dinner, but then fold down the back heel to wear them as slides during Black Friday sales. That way you can easily take them on and off while in the fitting room. This style by Robert Clergerie is made for walking.
