Travelers who don't celebrate Christmas — or who are willing to forgo the festivities — can find great deals by booking flights for Christmas Day.
In a recent holiday travel report by Hipmunk, the online travel company found that travelers could save up to $100 on flights by traveling on December 25. As an added bonus, Christmas is also the least busy departure date during the holiday season, with only 1 percent of bookings scheduled for that day.
We looked at flights departing Christmas Day using Kayak’s Explore tool, and found more than a few tickets with reasonable price tags. So instead of packing up presents, pack your bags. After all, last-minute holiday flight deals make perfect gifts for your loved ones — and you.
Christmas Flights from New York
Ticket prices have been fluctuating — and have even been spotted in the $200s — but we most recently found $309 round-trip flights to Bermuda from New York City. (Book a room at the Hamilton Princess and check out their life-size gingerbread house, which was crafted from 350 pounds of dough and 120 pounds of sugar icing.)
Christmas Flights From California
Cheap flights to Hawaii are also a viable option for travelers interested in heading far from home for Christmas. Flights with Hawaiian Airlines start at $605 round-trip from Los Angeles, and there are also $727 round-trip tickets from San Jose. All flights are to the island of Kauai.
Cheap Flights From Florida
Travelers in the Fort Lauderdale-area can book $666 round-trip (and nonstop) tickets to London right now — and because they depart late on Christmas, you don’t even need to ditch Christmas Eve or early morning Christmas Day festivities to take advantage.
The low-cost carrier Frontier is also selling $279 round-trip tickets from Miami to Las Vegas: one of the hottest holiday destinations in the country, according to Hipmunk. Unfortunately, to save you’ll need to depart before the New Year’s Eve celebrations begin.
