We could all use a little comfort food right about now, and D23, the official Disney fan club, has us covered with Walt Disney’s own chili recipe. Eat like the Disney empire founder with this recipe, which is perfect for cozy nights in watching Disney+. According to Disney Family, Walt Disney preferred hardy and simple food, eating lots of canned chili through the years before developing this recipe. Now, Disneyland guests can try Walt’s chili at Carnation Cafe in the Main Street, U.S.A. section of the park.

Here’s the recipe according to the D23 website:

Ingredients

For the Chili

  • 2 lbs. coarse ground beef
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1⁄2 cup oil
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 tsp. chili powder (depending on taste)
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 large can solid pack tomatoes
  • 2 lbs. dry pink beans
  • Salt

For Extra Zest

Add a pinch of the following spices:

  • 1 little yellow Mexican chili pepper
  • Coriander seeds
  • Turmeric
  • Chili seeds
  • Cumin seeds
  • Fennel seeds
  • Cloves
  • Cinnamon
  • Dry ginger

Preparation

Soak the beans overnight in cold water. Drain, add water to cover (two inches over beans), and simmer with onions for about four hours or until tender. Brown the meat and minced garlic in oil. Add the rest of the ingredients, and simmer for one hour. When the beans are tender, add the meat sauce and simmer for a half-hour.

This recipe serves six to eight people, and you can top it with sour cream, cheese, and fresh tomatoes for a Disneyland touch.
