Danny Trejo is building a food empire in Los Angeles.
This week the actor, famous for action flicks like Machete, opened a coffee and donut shop in Hollywood. Trejo’s Coffee & Donuts is his fourth establishment in the city.
In the past year, he has also launched a taco truck and two restaurants — Trejo’s Tacos and Trejo’s Cantina — the latter of which Anthony Bourdain visited in an episode of Parts Unknown.
The vibrantly colored donut shop sells unique flavors with a latino twist. There’s a tequila-lime donut, a Mexican hot chocolate flavor, and even a nacho option that packs a jalapeño and cheddar punch. The doughnuts have names like “Gringo,” “Abuelita,” and “The Hail Mary.”
As for the coffee, Trejo’s will serve its own special blend that’s been roasted in Los Angeles.
“I couldn’t have imagined coming from Pacoima, success as an actor and now; not only to make my mother’s dream of owning a restaurant come true, but to have an entire second career!” Trejo said in a statement. “It’s truly a blessing.”
For those unable to book a trip to Los Angeles to taste Trejo’s tacos and doughnuts, the actor and his business partner have plans to expand into a national chain. Earlier this year, Trejo told Forbes that he would love to set up shop in New York City, Las Vegas and San Antonio.
The shop is open everyday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 6785 Santa Monica Boulevard, in Hollywood.
