It’s that time of year again. The time of sweaters, changing leaves, and most importantly, everything pumpkin spice.

Ever since Starbucks began the phenomenon of Pumpkin Spice Lattes, PSLs for short, it has changed how we celebrate fall forever. Since this autumnal miracle food’s invention, the world has gone on to create pumpkin spice gum, pumpkin spice Oreos, pumpkin spice Pringles, pumpkin spice candy corn (a fall double whammy), and even pumpkin spice Spam.

And you might wonder who is demanding all of these pumpkin spiced items. It turns out, certain states are in need of these quintessentially fall flavors more than others.

According to data collected by GrubHub, October is the peak month for pumpkin and/or pumpkin spice flavored foods, with 118 percent more orders than usual. November is the second highest with 92 percent, reported the Huffington Post.

The data also showed that states along the west coast are primarily to blame for this pumpkin spice craze, including California, Oregon, and Washington, as well as Mountain and Midwestern states like Utah and Ohio. California ranks as number one for the pumpkin and pumpkin spice obsessed.

GrubHub could only collect data on food orders from restaurants that used its service, so there’s no telling on which states are buying these items at the grocery store. In order to get their data, GrubHub pulled analytics on each month’s food deliveries and compared them to the rest of the year, according to the Huffington Post.

As for the specific food items that were being ordered, it may come as no surprise that people are in love with pumpkin spice breakfast foods and desserts the most – which is understandable. According to the data, pumpkin spice foods became the most popular between fall 2017 and fall 2018. Pumpkin spice pancakes were 365 percent more popular, while pumpkin pie milkshakes rose 339 percent, followed by pumpkin spiced cheesecake (329 percent), pumpkin cupcakes (263 percent) and pumpkin spice cookies (155 percent).

Who hasn’t had a craving for baked treats as soon as they felt that chill in the air? Considering that PSL’s are becoming available at Starbucks earlier and earlier as the years go by, soon pumpkin spice cravings will become a year-round thing.
