These Are the 50 Best Bars in the World for 2020
London's Connaught Bar took home the top prize this year.
If there’s ever been a good time for a stiff drink it’s now. Luckily for everyone, the list of the world’s 50 Best Bars in the world just dropped and it appears there’s a place for everyone.
Since 2009, William Reed Business Media has published its annual list of the world’s 50 best bars, which “celebrates the best of the international drinks industry.” The bars are voted on by more than 500 drinks experts from across the globe and “represents the ultimate international guide to the world’s top bars and drinking destinations.”
This year’s list, sponsored by Perrier, was unveiled at a virtual awards ceremony in early November. More than 20 nations are represented on the list and 11 new entries made the cut.
“The World's 50 Best Bars is the drinks industry’s most prestigious and highly anticipated night of the year, bringing together the best bartending talent from around the globe, with a live countdown of the list, culminating in the announcement of The World’s Best Bar,” the organization explained on its site.
“It’s hard to think of a bar anywhere in the world that has made excellence so effortlessly routine as Connaught Bar,” the list explained. “This Mayfair hotel bar’s trick is it isn’t trend-chasing and flash; under the stewardship of Ago Perrone, Giorgio Bargiani and Maura Milia, it evolves from one year to the next, always delivering with poise and studied purpose.”
But, the Connaught Bar isn’t the only excellent bar to visit in the UK. In fact, London bars took three of the top 10 rankings. In general, Europe took 21 spots, Asia took 15, and North and South America took a mere 10 spots combined. Rounding out the top 10 is Dante in New York, The Clumsies in Athens, Atlas in Singapore, Tayēr + Elementary in London, Kwānt in London, Florería Atlántico in Buenos Aires, Coa in Hong Kong, Jigger & Pony in Singapore, and The SG Club in Tokyo.
