VIDEO: Five Things to Do in Nashville
Nashville is a perennial favorite for travelers from around the world—it even boasts the hard-earned title of Travel + Leisure’s 2015 Destination of the Year, Reader’s Choice—and for good reason: there's a host of delicious things to eat and fun things to do in Music City. Country music here is definitely not overrated: hear live musical acts anywhere on Honky Tonk Row, or catch a weekly showing of the Grand Ole Opry at Ryman Auditorium, or the “Mother Church of Country Music.”
When you’ve had your fill of twangy tunes, fill up on hearty Southern fare. Get the spicy fried chicken from Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack or Hattie B’s, pulled-pork sandwiches with Pimento Cheese from the barbecue empire Martin’s, and wash it all down with local bourbon. Nelson’s Green Brier and Corsair are two of the top Nashville distilleries.
What to do on a balmy, sunny day is to head to Cheekwood Botanical Garden, where you can wander through a permanent sculpture trail and enjoy seasonal exhibitions (think: Bruce Munro’s Light or a model train show).
Other highlights in Tennessee’s capital include the Country Music Hall of Fame (a veritable shrine to Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton) or an interactive round of The Escape Game. One thing’s for sure—Nashville isn’t shying away from the spotlight: it’s basking in it.
